John Shelley, PE teacher at Shoreham College was presented with a ‘National Recognition Award’ from the ISA Sports Ambassador, Roger Brierly this week. The award recognises John’s loyal and distinguished service to ISA sport.
For the last ten years John has been the ISA Regional Coordinator for the London South District, working on both regional and national events in both swimming and cross-country. This takes up a huge amount of commitment and time.
Mr Taylor-West, Headmaster, Shoreham College said 'It is excellent to see John recognised for his commitment to ISA sport, over many years. Young people are able to access sport that challenges them and develops them because of the tireless dedication of teachers like Mr Shelley. I am also thrilled that we managed to keep a secret from him: he didn't see the award coming at all.'
Mr Shelley said, "It was a great honour to receive the award, I had no idea it was coming. Running the events and selecting the teams for nationals all these years has just become a part of my job, although it is nice to be recognised for it. I wouldn’t do it though if I didn’t find it rewarding; the ISA sports set up is very good and provides the children with fantastic opportunities to compete in a wide range of sports at some very prestigious venues up and down the country, it is great to be a part of it.”
