87^th Reunion Dinner – Saturday 15^th November 2014

This year’s Reunion Dinner was held once again at the Metropole in Brighton and was the largest event we’ve had with 122 guests attending! We were back in the main ballroom this year following a complete refurbishment of the room and this provided an elegant setting for the evening.

Guests were welcomed to the hotel by the Event Photographer, Amber Morgan, herself an Old Shorehamer. The bar was packed out before the meal with old friends catching up with each other and reminiscing at a selection of old school photos on display.

The President of the Association, Edward Gray, opened proceedings with a welcome plus recognition of the Senior House Representatives present: Rodney - Peter Standing (1935), Raleigh – Jimmy Holmes (1936), Nelson – Edward Gray (1933) plus three for Raleigh – Michael Fish, Geoff Smith & Tony Rolph, all born in 1934.

During the sumptuous meal, many guests moved around the tables catching up with familiar faces and there was a buzzing atmosphere the whole evening. Following dinner, Acting Headmaster George Harrison addressed the Association. During his speech, a large helium balloon of a pig’s face popped up behind him causing much amusement (those who know Mr Harrison well will know that he is obsessed with pigs!). The hotly contested ‘Guess the length of the Headmaster’s speech’ was won jointly by Peter Kent and Brain Jarrett, each pocketing £55.20 each. The formal events were rounded off by the Heads of College speech, made by Georgina Liley and William Jefferies, who made special mention to George Harrison’s forthcoming retirement after teaching at the College for 37 years.

Following the speeches, the disco commenced and it was good to see some impressive moves on the dance floor, mainly from the gentlemen! Many guests stayed until the early hours, rounding off a highly successful and enjoyable evening.
