On the day of the 85th Old Shorehamers’ Reunion, the annual OSA Football match was held at the College. A representative team of the school welcomed back some ‘old’ and ‘not so old’ OSA members for the match.
Two very competitive teams took to the field, Hassan Rajwani tasked with the job of the man in the middle, a position that he fulfilled with impeccable control, allowing the game to flow and become the spectacle it did. Robert Wilkins also ensured a fair game was played as he stepped in as linesman.
A very strong start from both teams set the tone for a high quality contest that continued throughout the 90 minutes. The School XI took the lead when Cox whipped a shot from the edge of the box across the keeper into the top corner; 1 – 0. The lead was doubled when Edwards returned a short corner to Cox for him to fire in his and the School XI’s second. 2 – 0 at half time spoke volumes for the quality of the school boys on show, but may have been considered slightly against the run of play.
The OSA’s ‘experience’ and quality shone through in the second half as they took a firm grip on the game. The deficit was halved with a well taken goal from Horney who fired across the keeper into the bottom corner; 2 – 1. It took the OSA till the final minutes of the game to draw level 2 – 2, a neat turn followed by a well placed shot from Michael took the game to penalties.
Penalties

A gripping penalty shot out was a fitting finale to a tremendous game, full of quality and class, played in the right spirit. Louie Jones won Man of the Match and was presented with a trophy at the Dinner in the evening. Also presented to the winning school team was The Wynne Statham Challenge Trophy and this will be kept by the school until next years eagerly anticipated annual re-match.
